Awaken Oh Hearts

Laura Botsford

I walked along a wicker road to somewhere clean. Sometimes
when I think it’s time to go, a little bird comes along and whispers from a
tree that is indeed a good time to be free but the story of flight
must be told,

How the fragile grass can survive the step, is a miracle.

As morning brings a feather of dew softly upon its velvet green mat
and the rain comes to renew it from the crush.

Once again its spring is back, upright green and lush.

How startled is the discovered ground to find it’s just a
little taller the next day after under going so much.

Never the less, my front porch is fillled with geraniums and my back door is steeped in the scent
of honeysuckle.I musn’t despair, for love takes care to circle back again unknuckled

And though the years have craved the younger bloom

I am not certain that I would want the tomb.

Lovely summer and knowing Autum befalls me still

For each season is my reason to stay alive.

I have given the roads many a travel

Where that my heart unraveled the soul of a woman whose name
is neither a mans nor womans, but who is my one light

My one song

My universe

Up the staircase of my garden leads me to its fair retreat.

Where friends in their silent beauty I am sure to greet.

Alleys and Alias’ (Act One, Scene One)

The banquet of desire led her down an alley where she could safely appear at last from the green room into the light of the grand hall. Her friends from before opened the stage right door. The script was written and the position of actors were readied for their parts. However we come to poet streets is of no matter, what is of importance is that we are there now. Evan walked out on to the stage of the quiet and austere grand hall theater. It was all she dreamt of. The gilded theater boxes, the opulent seats in velvet, the curving ceiling painted with clouds and tiny stars that actually twinkled.

(Enter stage right)  Marina Mc Coy is a charming forty-ish woman  with a flair for the dramatic with an air of old theater-somewhat stylized in delivery. Marina opens her arms with great love and greeting to Evan.

Marina: I am so glad you are here. I have been waiting for you darling. So did you find the green room wonderful or what! I love how they leave flowers and fruit baskets. The sparkling water all ice-cold and that yummy tray of pumpkin muffins. Yes, it is remarkably generous don’t you think?

Evan: It is wonderful. I am not sure if I deserve such treats.

Marina: Oh but you do, we all do. We are appreciated here. Come let us get a few of the lines down before the others arrive. (they cross to down stage center looking out a window.)  Here is your script.

Evan: (with enthusiasm) Are you seeing this? The street is filling up for the parade. Look at all the folks putting out their lawn chairs and coolers. It’s going to be quite the show this year they are saying. Isn’t it?

Marina: Lots of input from the local theaters this year,  a collaboration of actors and musicians.

Evan: Oh look there is Reni. (waving) Reni! Reni, Up here…  (Marina and Evan are both waving.)

Reni:

Decorating My Heaven

Decorating My Heaven  – Laura Botsford

I am against the tremors of earths shaking.

A platonic tectonic should be the fault plane with no stick slip behaviors to ruin mankind.

No timber or mortar upon the road

No tsunami to bash the helpless

Decorating my Heaven, my moments magnitude without divergent brittle boundaries.

Fixed and certain the ground should be.

Never faltering from its sane and safe places in lasting luminosity

The common laws of nature would not be allowed in my perfect world.

These simple rules would abide

Only soft and gentle rain resides

Sweet breezes filled with the scent of ones currant flavored flower.
and yes…  Snow only on Christmas Eve and day  …  Yes, all that is natural beams in

                                   amber reflections  of  everlasting beauty

that never falters from cherished Cherub faces
