Off to the races
Our Bayou St. John cottage borders the Fair Grounds Race Course, so we had this on our list of places to visit. Luck was on our side when we were cordially invited to attend the horse races by a NOLA Social rider Jenny and her companion Rob, who manages several jockeys at the track, one of whom we met outside the grocery store on our first night here. Rob took us behind the scenes where we could fawn over the magnificent thoroughbreds up close. Before the race, we brushed up on the basics of horse race wagering, which paid off. We won a whopping $3!

Down in New Orleans

Arcade Fire and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band led thousands of us through the French Quarter paying tribute to David Bowie with a traditional second line parade. Love and magic permeated the crowd.
